What is a good sewing project to show off basic sewing chops?
I have had experience with garment/costume building before, and I do know my way around a sewing machine. I have been offered a position (tentatively, no doubt) as an istant in my university's costume shop for the upcoming semester. The head designer asked if I might come in sometime and make something - anything to show off my skills and basic knowledge of garment construction. I was thinking I might try a vest with welt pockets, but I was curious if that might be a bit TOO involved, what with lining, reinforcing, etc. Are there any projects that might sound like a decent, not too involved endeavor to show off my abilities?
