Which is cheaper to run, gas fireplace, or a furnace?

We have a gas fireplace in the living room, and a 90% efficient gas furnace. It is in the single digits outside and the furnace runs often. Which would be better on energy, gas fireplace, or our furnace? Fireplace has a built in blower.
